Our Promise: High School Graduation

Our Promise: High School Graduation
MRHS Success Dean Jay Upshaw works with a teaching colleague and two students after school.

Our strategic plan names ambitious academic goals, including a goal for at least 19 out of 20 students to graduate prepared to choose their future. Why aim so high? Because our students are worth it, and they are capable of it.

It is our job to make sure students are prepared for the pathways they choose, whether it’s university, community college, technical training or career.

We want our students to have every option open to them. A high school diploma is the first step on the path to their dreams.

That's why our ultimate strategic plan goal is centered on graduation: students will graduate from high school prepared for the future they choose.

How do we plan to reach our high school graduation goal? We are tracking several metrics:

  • Percentage of students graduating in four years
  • Percentage of students graduating in five years
  • Number of graduates directly enrolled in post-secondary education pursuing career training, apprenticeships, military service and careers

Jay Upshaw, a success dean at Mount Rainier High School, supports students to stay on track to graduate. His work is a community effort. Jay collaborates with teachers, staff, families, parents and community partners to ensure each student has a supportive network in place that meets their individual needs.
